The introduction of rubber fir tree gaskets has allowed the glazing industry to dry glaze windows and doors easily. The gaskets are inserted into the respective profiles to give a cushioned surface for the frame and glass to meet. These gaskets are not necessarily designed as a weather gasket, as they will allow water to pass from outside the property. The water that passes, is then directed back out of the frame via a drainage system which has been routed into the profile during production. The term Fir Tree comes from the design of the respective gasket, in that, if you imagine cutting a fir tree down the middle, vertically, this then takes the shape of half a fir tree, and this is what this type of gasket looks like. There are a number of, shall we say “branches” which emanate from the main trunk of the gasket, the size of the gasket in terms of thickness is derived from the specifications laid down by the profile designers. Hence there are various sizes of gasket available to choose from, to cope with different thicknesses of glass. In addition to the Black Fir Tree Gasket we have always stocked, the range has been expanded due to popular request to also include White Fir Tree Gasket.
