Cavity closing wedges, sometimes called locking wedges are used on push out casement windows. They are designed to provide a solution to side hung windows that do not pull in tightly onto the gasket weather seals on the hinge side of the window. This becomes more of an issue as the window becomes taller in height as the window hinges are fitted at the top and bottom of the opener only, so therefore the middle of the window requires an additional device to pull the opener and frame tightly together. This is achieved using the correct cavity wedges. Cavity Closing Wedges Cavity wedges are a simple device, however cleverly shaped and designed so that as the 2 opposing angled parts close together. They slide across and into each other forcing the opening sash and the Upvc outer frame to securely pull together, resulting in a snug, secure and weather tight seal into the gasket seals. Fitting tips: Fit the first half of the wedge onto the opening sash into the euro-groove slot then mark the centre of this onto the edge of the sash so that you can transfer this to the outer frame to mark the fixing point for the 2nd half of the opposing wedge. It is always worth checking that the two profiles are level and not bowed out of shape as this may cause the two parts to not locate correctly and actually increase the gap, not close it. The euro grove is part of the design of the profile used in the opening window / sash. This euro grove is designed to accept fittings to enable the window to be hinged along with accommodating the locking mechanism to secure the window. The width is normally 16mm however they are some window systems which incorporate a narrower euro grove. It is always prudent to measure the before ordering any parts. The closing wedges would fit centrally to stop the window bending / bowing. Fixing screws if required are our part number 2733 and are sold in bags of 20. We suggest drilling a 3mm pilot hole and hand driver to stop the block been split, this will allow the fixing screw to secure minimum tension. Also ensure you do not over tighten the screw which could split the wedge anker point. Additional information: Various makes of wedges to suit different profiles have been used over the years, if un-sure which one to purchase then the most universal wedge is our part number 2610, which in most cases will be a successful fit.
