Identifying a replacement Upvc Window Lock Rod can be a daunting task at first glance, however with a little bit of knowledge the experience can become a much easier challenge than you might have first perceived.

Firstly you want to identify the brand, if you have the brand as a starting point then you have already narrowed down the choice from 100's of Window Lock Rods to a handful. Popular brands include Maco, ERA Saracen and our own Gardinia kits.

The next key point to identify is if the window lock rod is Inline of Offset. Inline means the centre gearbox is in the middle of the long metal strip, where as offset as the name suggest is offset to the left or right side of the long metal strip.

Now the backset dimension is the next critical dimension to obtain. The backset is the distance measured from the centre of the square spindle hole to the centre of the gearbox, where it connects to the long metal strip.

After this it would help to know the overall length and width of the face plate (metal strip), along with if it has square ends or rounded ends.

To significantly narrow down the available lock rod choices you should now take note of if the locking points are hooks, rollers or mushroom cams, along with the number of each.

A final thing to take note of is if the faceplate (metal strip) is curved in to a "U" shape, if so you will require a U track window lock rod.
